About Us
Wayu was born from a desire to share the beauty, culture and craftsmanship of Colombia with Australia.
Inspired by the Wayuu people — the largest Indigenous community in Colombia and Venezuela — Wayu celebrates the rich weaving traditions that have been passed down through generations. For the Wayuu people, weaving is more than a craft; it is a way of expressing their heritage, creativity and connection to the world around them.
While the iconic Wayuu mochila inspired our name, Colombia is home to many talented artisans and Indigenous communities whose traditions and craftsmanship deserve to be celebrated.
At Wayu, we work directly with artisans and small family businesses across Colombia. Every piece is handmade with care, preserving techniques that have been passed down for generations. With every purchase, you are helping to support families, communities and traditional crafts.
Meet the Founder

Hi, I'm Aura.
Originally from Colombia and now living in Australia, I created Wayu to build a bridge between two places I call home. Growing up, I was surrounded by the colours, traditions and creativity that make Colombia so unique, and I wanted to create a space where Australians could discover and appreciate these beautiful handmade treasures.
Wayu is more than a business to me. It is a way to support talented artisans, preserve cultural traditions and share a little piece of Colombia with the world.
Thank you for being part of this journey
